Commissioning of projects has been a challenge for decades, it is not a new problem. The world has continued to advance, but the commissioning industry has largely stayed the same for the last several decades. As an example, the iPhone was first announced in 2007 – over 15 years ago – but many projects are still using paper and spreadsheets to manage commissioning.

The way to advance the commissioning industry is not an overnight solution – commissioning is complex, and while there are several commissioning experts working on projects, there are many more people working on projects that have a limited understanding of commissioning and how it works.

The way to slowly transform the industry is by getting the right information into the hands of the right people working on projects. In the past, this was not possible. Even 10 years ago, the Internet was still developing. But today, the Internet has evolved and the tools and processes that exist to share information are powerful – we all have immediate access to information on the phone in our pockets. The resources now exist to easily and quickly share information with everyone working on projects so they can understand the importance of commissioning and the value it provides to projects.

The construction and commissioning industry is not going to transform overnight though – it will be a slow process to help everyone working on projects to understand the importance of commissioning and the benefits it provides to projects. But for the first time, we are empowered to help the industry make this transformation. The commissioning content to help others understand exists, we need to get it in the right hands.

There are lots of people that have been in this industry for a long time. They’ve been through struggles and learned lots of hard lessons. Because of the challenges, many have unfortunately accepted the way the industry is and have resigned to the fact that it will not change – they feel commissioning will continue to be underappreciated and not given the attention needed to successfully deliver projects. Others refuse to accept this and want to continue to elevate the importance of commissioning and help others understand the benefits it provides to projects.

So, here’s your opportunity to share with others to help them understand the importance of commissioning and the value it provides. Repost this article to your network, and send it to someone you know that would benefit from some additional commissioning information. Then check out www.commissioningandstartup.com to see the resources we have created to help everyone understand the importance of commissioning and the value it provides to projects. By sharing the commissioning information we have with the powerful tools available to us, we can help others understand the importance of commissioning and the value it provides to projects, one person at a time, one project at a time.
